DESSERTS AT HOME ARE AWESOME AND CUPCAKES ARE ONE OF THE QUICKEST AND EASIEST TO MAKE.  IN JUST A FEW STEPS, YOU CAN TAKE YOUR CUPCAKES FROM ORDINARY TO MAGICAL – DISNEY STYLE!

Okay, I have to admit – I’m going through some serious Disneyland withdrawals right now!  Given the uncertain timelines and status of the reopening of the Disneyland Resort, I’m looking for ways to keep the magic alive at home!  And what better way than Disney-inspired food!  I was fooling around in the kitchen and figured out how to make Mickey Mouse cupcakes that are super-cute.  How fun!

Recently, my darling husband bought me this amazing belated birthday gift.  I could hardly wait to dive right in.  Of course, there are so many fun ways to use this set, but my mind has been on Disney.  So I checked the cupboard to see what I had and away I went.

Now, first of all, we should clear up a little misconception that many people have.  Cupcakes are NOT only for celebrations, they are for everyday happiness!  If you have a birthday party or some other event, these adorable Mickey Mouse cupcakes would certainly fit the bill.  But, if it’s Tuesday, they’ll work great for that too!

What You’ll Need

In order to make these super-cute Mickey Mouse cupcakes, you’ll need a few supplies.  You’re going to need:

  • Your favourite cupcake recipe (a box mix will do just fine)
  • Icing
  • Cake Decorating Tools
  • Oreo cookies – regular and mini
  • Multi-coloured sprinkles
  • Round black candies (such as M&Ms)

As you can see by this list, this project is shaping up to be super-easy and super-fast as well as super-cute!

What You’ll Do

Start by making your cupcakes.  I like to make them early in the morning so that they have time to cool before I decorate them.  Any flavour will do.  If you have them, use red or black cupcake liners, to keep in the Mickey Mouse colour scheme.  And if you have red and white polka-dots – guess what?!  You have MINNIE Mouse Cupcakes!  When I checked my cupboard, I didn’t have any “Mickey-style” cupcake papers, but I did have these awesome baking cups – LOVE the fact that I can reuse them again and again!

Once your cupcakes are completely cooled, it’s time to decorate.  Depending on how you decided to use your Oreos, you’ll be icing your cupcakes in a couple of different ways.

Version 1 – Mickey Mouse Ears

For this cupcake, you’re going to need a fair amount of icing, in order to hold up regular-size Oreos like ears.  Alternatively, you can trim the cookies slightly, but where’s the fun in that??  I’ve used a fairly large decorator tip and made the icing quite thick.  Pipe the icing onto the cupcake, coming to a point in the centre.  Place the Oreos on each side so they look like Mickey Mouse Ears.  You can also use the mini Oreos and a little less icing.

Add some sprinkles for fun!

Version 2 – Mickey Mouse Head

These cupcakes are so, so cute!  For this version, you’ll give your cupcakes a more smooth iced finish.  Then, place a mini Oreo in the middle, and use two black M&Ms for the ears.  You could also add some sprinkles if you felt so inclined, but I think these are wonderful just the way they are.  And don’t be afraid to get creative with these!  If your cupcakes are big enough, use a regular-sized Oreo for the head and two minis for the ears.  Or change up the colour of the candies – black candies can be a little tricky to find sometimes – try red or yellow!  Have fun with it!

Of course, the tricky part with these Mickey Mouse cupcakes is not eating them all in one sitting!  And trust me – there’s NOTHING magical about that.  The best thing to do?  Share your treats with your family, and make EVERYBODY happy!  Who knew your kitchen could become your happiest place on earth!

What are you doing to keep the Disney magic alive at home?  Be sure to let us know in the comments!  In the meantime, start planning your next trip!  It’s never too soon to think about going back.
