WANT TO UP YOUR DISNEYLAND GAME? WHY NOT START SEARCHING OUT THE HIDDEN MICKEYS? IT’S A GREAT WAY TO PASS THE TIME IN THE LINES, WAITING FOR YOUR FAVOURITE RIDES!
As if there aren’t enough things to do in the Disneyland Resort in California, we’ve got one more thing to add to your to-do list: Finding the Hidden Mickeys! It’s a great way to keep kids entertained in certain attraction lines and if you are travelling in a group, you can easily make a game of it. So let’s take a look at where to find hidden Mickeys in the Disneyland Resort. Of course, this is by no means a complete list – just some of my faves!
What are Hidden Mickeys?
Before we get started, let’s talk about just what Hidden Mickeys are. Well, they are any collection of three circles that represent the shape of … Mickey! Where did it start, you might ask? The concept of Hidden Mickeys originated in Epcot in Walt Disney World. The Executives wanted to keep Mickey and Minnie Mouse exclusively in the Magic Kingdom, but the Imagineers had other ideas. They came up with a way to add Mickey Mouse to Epcot – “hidden” Mickeys – and now thousands of visitors search them out every year.
In our opinion, Hidden Mickeys are just that – hidden! We don’t think of the obvious images of Mickey Mouse when we talk about the Hidden Mickeys – like on carpets, signage or otherwise. They should be a little tricky to find and sometimes they almost look like they happened by accident! We also don’t count food shaped as Mickey – there’s nothing hidden about that!
Where to Look
Of course, you’ll start to see them everywhere (trust me on this one), but here is a list of a few of our favourite Hidden Mickeys in the Disneyland Resort in California. I’m not going to tell you EXACTLY where they are (what’s the fun in that?), but here are a few clues:
Peter Pan’s Flight
While riding this iconic attraction, keep your eyes peeled as you pass the Big Ben Clock Tower. You might get a glimpse of someone sitting in the window.
Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree
Look up – WAY up (into the corners). While you are in the queue for this super-fun attraction, take a close look at the decorations – in particular, some groupings of hubcaps. You never know what you’ll see.
Haunted Mansion
As you make your way through the Haunted Mansion in your doom-buggy, pay attention to the place settings in the haunted dining room. See if you notice something about how the dishes are sitting!
Big Thunder Mountain
If you can open your eyes long enough to look around on the “Wildest Ride in the Wilderness”, you’ll spot a hidden Mickey just layin’ around. There are some gears on the hillside just waiting to be discovered.
Pixie Hollow
While heading into the Hollow to meet everyone’s favourite Pixie, take a look around the queue. Especially the toadstools.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of the Hidden Mickeys throughout the Disneyland Resort, but where would the fun be in me telling you all of them? I will tell you this – when looking for the Hidden Mickeys, don’t forget to look EVERYWHERE! This includes stores, restaurants and the hotels of the Disneyland Resort.
